Cortinarius saturatus Lange subgenus Telamonia Cap 4-9cm across, hemispherical, then flat with a broad umbo; hygrophanous, reddish brown when wet, ochre when dry; smooth with silky white veil remnants on the margin. Gills adnate; pallid buff then rusty brown. Stem 60-90 x 10-16mm, base sometimes swollen; silky white from veil, showing slightly brown from damp flesh. Flesh white to brownish mottled when wet. Odor slight. Taste mild. Spores subglobose to broadly ovate, rough, 6.5-7.3 x 5.5-6.3µ, quotient 1.25. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat under conifers. Rare. Found in Maine, possibly elsewhere. Season September. Not edible. Comment This is a European species not reported previously in North America. The subglobose spores are most distinctive.
